Gear Up For The 2008 NFL Playoffs

Big Game, Big Win.

So it is Sunday morning and my wife has her Eli jersey on at 8am and the ribbing commences. We have a lovely breakfast, albeit a little hung over form the night before but the food is tasty none the less. The talk is all about how the Giants are going to dismantle the Eagles that afternoon. I stay quiet and say we will see.

It is now 12:30 pm the belly is full and the food preparation begins for the big game. The wife is dancing around the house with that same Eli jersey on antagonizing me. Looking cute by the way even with that damn jersey! 12:55 pm rolls around and I walk to the bedroom and begin the ritual with putting the McNabb jersey on. I run down the hallway into the kitchen and attempt to slide on the floor with a “its game-time, you’re going down”. Instead, my feet do not slide, I nearly fall on my face and look like a complete jackass. A precursor to the game? I would be lying if I said it did not cross my mind.

The game begins and I can not hold the emotion in any longer. The loud clapping and “lets go” leave my lips repeatedly. Rarely do I show any emotion for most things, including my beloved Eagles. But this game was different because of the competitiveness in our house between my wife and I. The Giants first possession resulted in a field goal and I am not feeling that confident but I dare not let Marisa know. Then that bum turned playoff savior, Asante Samuel, intercepts a Manning butterfly and returns it to the 2 yard line. Four plays later, touchdown and a 7 to 3 lead. The confidence is back and the clapping gets louder and the blood starts to flow (not to that area, of course). The rest is history as they say and the Eagles win, (er… dismantle) the Giants at home in the playoffs.

For all those haters out there……HA! Marisa, to you, apparently Eli is that nervous inexperienced quarterback he was five years ago. Last year was an aberration! McNabb did not have a great game but a win is a win, especially when their best player (Westbrook) was ineffective. He will have to have a big game this week against the high powered offensive Cardinals in order for them to have a chance. Their defense can only keep them in it for so long. To my cousin, we/I need those owner box tickets, baby!

Household divided, awesome. Nothing like the taste of sports revenge and being on top of scoreboard.

    Sigh.
