Gear Up For The 2008 NFL Playoffs

Favorite Match Up Of the Week: Ravens At Titans

Steelers v Titans

I think this week’s playoff game between the Ravens and Titans will be old school football. It will be a game with violent collisions, not much scoring and lots of trash talking. Each team brings a defense that is second to none and I’m looking forward to seeing which one comes out on top.

The Titans have had the opportunity to get Haynesworth rested and healthier. When he’s playing strong the Titan’s defense has a different persona and everyone is a better player. He’s a beast and disrupts plays from their inception. Game plans look good on paper, but when 6′6″ angry men that are generously listed at 320 lbs start jacking up your offensive linemen things don’t tend to go as planned. Flacco better be able to improvise and keep proving me wrong or the rookie will finally bust.

Baltimore Ravens v Miami Dolphins

On the other side of the defensive ball the Ravens bring a guy named Ray Lewis to the game. Lewis is arguably one the best linebackers the NFL has had in a long time. Names like Singletary, Butkus, Lambert and Taylor come to mind. First off I think the guy is borderline crazy. This is the same guy that was indicted for murder. He was able to get the charges changed to a misdemeanor and only received probation, but part of the process was selling out his buddies and testifying against them. Another great NFL player comes to mind: OJ Simpson. But you have to be slightly crazy to play with passion and hate for the opposing team like Lewis does. His play is contagious and elevates his “teammates” and their game.

When the dust settles I don’t really care who wins. If have to pick though, I’ll lean towards the home team. I think Jeff Fischer and his Titans will grind it out. The Titan’s running back tandem, defense, and kicker Bironas are the difference.

This should be a great game, and if the Ravens didn't have a rookie QB I'd say they are gonna win. But they do, so they won't.
