Troy Polamalu “The Flying Hawaiian” Plays the Game Right

Steelers v Ravens

It’s not very often I look to the defense side of the ball and look forward to watching one player, but with Polamalu I do. He’s electric and it’s exciting to watch him go after the other team. The guy has a motor that simply doesn’t stop.

He delivers big hits, flies over linemen to tackle QB’s on a 4th and 1, intercepts passes and goes 40 yards to the house. He plays safety, but they line him everywhere on the field and with his football IQ, size, speed and power, offenses must game plan around him and know to key in on the hair. He’s listed at 5′ 10″ and 207 lbs. and in the NFL that’s not very big, but if you’ve ever played or competed with a Samoan there’s just something about their athletic ability and level of intensity they bring to game that makes for the physical specs.

Personally, I think the best part about him is you only hear and read about his play or his hair, which apparently hasn’t been cut since 2000. He’s not in the news for being a thug, dirty player or running his mouth in the third person. He’s not carrying a gun and shooting himself in the leg, or trying to get back sports memorabilia, or “allegedly” tied to some shooting at a club. He’s just a humble guy that leaves it all on the field and that’s enough for him.

It’s refreshing to see, because in pro sports it doesn’t happen often with a player of his talent.
